What's the greatest Brazil squad of all time?

It's the eternal bar-table debate. In Meia Dúzia every squad has an average rating based on player strength, so you can compare (more or less) objectively. We looked at four classic contenders.

The contenders

  • Brazil 1958 — the World Cup debut of Pelé and Garrincha. The highest-rated Brazil squad in the game.
  • Brazil 1970 — the most beloved team ever, with Pelé, Tostão, Gérson, Rivelino and Jairzinho.
  • Brazil 1982 — the dream midfield: Zico, Sócrates and Falcão. Never champions, still adored.
  • Brazil 2006 — the "magic quartet" of Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Kaká and Adriano.

The game's verdict

Curiously, nostalgia doesn't always match the rating. Brazil 1958 edges ahead of the mythical 1970 side — partly because its strength is spread across the whole squad, not just the stars. But "best" is what you prove on the pitch: build each one and see who really routs.

Try it: open the Brazil national team, pick your favourite era and simulate the World Cup.
